Here is what I consider the essential resources for learning coin magic. As always drop me a quick email if you think I’ve missed something. I’m sure I’ll add to this in due course.
The Basics
Isn’t it odd that for cards I am strongly in favour of books, but for everything else DVDs are the way to go.
- David Roths Expert Coin Magic Made Easy volume 1-3 DVD (£15 each). Great introduction to the basics and classic routines.
- Modern Coin Magic by JB Bobo (£7). The classic text on coin magic.
I am told that the Ammar DVDs are really good too, but I don’t have them so I can’t comment.
Next Steps
Your off and running, now its time to look at a wider variety of work.
- Coin Magic by Richard Kaufman (£30). A huge collection of effects from Kaufman, Marlo, Slydini, Roth and many more. More matrix effects than you can shake a stick at.
- Revolutionary Coin Magic DVD (£25) Jay Sankeys work on coin magic is not for the beginner despite some reviews I’ve read. This has some really good ideas and routines and is definately worth a look.
Deep Cuts
Heres some stuff I really like, and you may find interesting too.
- Daniel Garcia’s Shade (£20). A very nice matrix effect.
- David Roths Expert Coin Magic Made Easy …. David has a whole collection from Okito boxes to shells.
I don’t have the rest of David Roths coin magic collection, but from the experience of his other DVDs these would be great value for money if you are interested in these types of effect.
