Enough of this internet nonsense, lets get on with a card problem.
I’ve finally got around to reading through my collection of Ibidem. Ibidem issue 1 has an interesting effect (to me anyway) called color blind. You show 3 red backed and 1 blue backed cards, pass a shadow over the packet to then show 3 blue backed and 1 red backed cards.
Thoughts So Far
This effect is based upon Le Pauls Deceptive Perception, which is an interesting solution (as always) but I’m looking to develop an alternative. Both the Le Paul and Norman Houghton (Ibidem) solutions are examinable at the end. Luckily for me I’m not limiting myself with such details. I want as visual a change as possible.
My first thoughts were in and around a 6 card elmsley, but I eventually put that down to lazy thinking. Next I started playing with ascanio spread which led me onto a reworking of Roy Waltons Roy-Al Monte using 4 blue backed cards a 1 red backed card. Not as good as Mr. Waltons original effect but a pretty good result. Whats more if I use Roys remove a card ploy I get the effect I’m after and end up clean.

If you want as visual as possible, how about double backs combined with some kind of half-pass or asher twist move?
Interesting Dan, you’ve kicked off a nugget of an idea. Lets say you have 3 red back and 1 blue backed joker (in reality 5). With the setup you suggest (2 cards are DB), I suspect you can show the backs and then turn over (HP) to show Jokers front. Then return to show that you now hold 3 blue and 1 red backed card. Elmsley throughout. Like I said I need to look at the handling and chances are this isn’t original. Sounds interesting though.
Nothing in magic is original!
Dan,
Your obviously not buying from the right retailer. Try Ellusionist, all their magic is either original or the secrets are .. so heavily guarded. It’s nearly impossible to learn ...
